Alta Faye Moore was born in Oplin, Texas to parents Edgar and Lillian Lehew on February 27, 1932. She was raised on a ranch near Pie Town, New Mexico, where she, her mother and 5 siblings provided for themselves by ranching, running a post office/general store, and working in town. She met her husband, Robert A. Moore of 67 years in Pie Town, and after a few years moved to Grants, NM. They raised 4 children: Ruby Walker of Ypsilanti, MI; Mary Jo Essinger, of Grants, NM; Allen Moore of Grants, NM; and Joyce Hailey of Clovis, NM. She is preceded in death by her parents, three siblings, her husband, and her oldest daughter, Ruby Nell. Alta Faye was a Lehew woman, of a generation that knew great hardship, but lived with determination, resilience, and faith. She was a hard-working homemaker, played the piano by ear, and sang with her husband in church services; gardened with an unmatched green thumb, worked alongside her husband (after his retirement from the uranium mines) to split and sell firewood, and was the best cook in the West. She and her husband raised their children to know and love the Lord, and left a life legacy of faithfulness and generosity to 9 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
