Arvella Allene Allen, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026 in Grants, New Mexico at the age of 88.
Born on April 1, 1938, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Arvella was the treasured daughter of Hubert and Thelma Hollar. She grew up in New Mexico, a place that would remain close to her heart throughout her life. A proud graduate of Valley High School in Albuquerque, Arvella embraced the values of community, hard work, and loyalty early on—guiding principles that would define her life.
In her working years, Arvella warmth and reliability shone through, as she worked for Zale’s Jewelry Store for a time, and later found a lasting fit at Wal-Mart in Gallup, where she delighted in helping customers in the jewelry department. Her sparkling personality and attention to detail made her a favorite among both colleagues and shoppers alike.
Arvella’s sense of community was further evident in the countless hours she gave to local organizations. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary (Post 3221) in Grants, a lifetime member of the Elks Doe’s, and a devoted member of the American Legion Auxiliary (Post 60) in Milan. Through these groups, she forged lasting friendships, lent a helping hand wherever it was needed, and contributed unselfishly to causes larger than herself.
Among Arvella’s fondest memories were the simple pleasures—attending the Lion’s Club Rodeo and spending precious time with family and friends. These moments, where laughter was shared and bonds were strengthened, were what she held dearest.
Family was at the center of Arvella’s world. She is survived by her brother, Twig Hollar; her daughters, Kelly and Kitty; her sons, Charlie & wife Leah, Corey & wife Nancy, and Buddy & wife Pam; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Each of them carries forward her legacy of kindness, generosity, and gentle humor.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Charles Dick Allen, as well as her father, Hubert Hollar, and mother, Thelma Hollar.
Dick Allen passed away last September. Dick & Arvella's family and friends will gather to honor their life with a Graveside Service, which will be held jointly for Dick & Sandy Allen on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 1:30 pm at Grants Memorial Park Cemetery, 500 West Roosevelt Avenue, Grants, NM 87020. A Celebration of Life will follow on Friday, October 9, 2026, beginning at 5:00 pm at American Legion Post 60, 720 Historic Route 66, Milan, NM 87021.
Arvella Allene Allen will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to family, her generous spirit, and her steadfast commitment to her community. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
