Birdye Abraham

February 15, 1927 — July 9, 2023

Birdye Hawkinson Abraham, 96, was born on February 15, 1927 and passed away on July 9, 2023. She was born to Orvel H. and Callie Ann Riley Hawkinson in Tucumcari, New Mexico. The funeral will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 400 Nimitz Drive, Grants NM. This will be followed by a luncheon at the Cibola County building and burial at the Grants Memorial Park cemetery.

She was blessed with a twinkle in her eye, a mischievous grin and a generous heart. Birdye loved to dance, socialize, travel, golf, and play cards (when her vision was good). She married Jake Abraham August 18, 1949 and four children were born to them.

She was a bookkeeper, a profession she loved, and a skill she used all her life. She appreciated being able to provide this skill to many organizations and individuals, including the Bi-County Fair, the Winter Quadrathlon and DOES.

Birdye is survived by three of her children: Terri, Kenny (Nona), Randi; two grandchildren: Kami (Jeremy) Pena and Koby (Amanda Garcia) Abraham; and two great-grandchildren: Nora and Everett Pena. Birdye is also survived by a sister: Doris Reed; nephews and nieces; several cousins; and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, much loved stepmother (Wilma Corn Hawkinson); husband Jake; and son Jacob (Moe); and sister: Loretta Morris.

Special thank you to Mom’s care providers from Quality Miners (now Trusted Ally) including most recently, Cindy Edwards, Jeanette Esidro, Debbie Molina.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bi-County Fair Birdye Abraham Memorial Scholarship, at P.O. Box 3689, Milan NM 87021.
