Cardenio Francisco Chavez, born on January 14, 1979, in Grants, New Mexico, departed this life on December 28, 2025. A beloved figure within his family, Cardenio was known for his vibrant spirit and passion for living life to the fullest. He dedicated himself to his career as a Master Stucco and Construction Worker, where his skills and work ethic earned him the respect of many in his community.

Cardenio cherished the time spent with his family, particularly enjoying precious moments with his children and grandchildren. He took great delight in watching his son excel in football and basketball, creating memories that will forever be treasured by those who loved him. His playful nature extended to his hobbies and interests; he enjoyed working out at the gym, following the Raiders, hunting, riding dirt bikes, cruising in lowriders, and getting tattoos, each activity reflecting his lively personality.

He is survived by his loving mother, Marcella Chavez; father, Cardenio Chavez; brother, Gene Chavez; sister, Valerie Quintana; children, Karissa and Cardenio Jr. Chavez, Alijah and Lilly Melonas; granddaughters, Ella Holguin and Avelycia Chavez; his girlfriend, Natasha Valles; and stepchildren, Thalia Chavez and Angelique Vargas. Cardenio is also remembered fondly by his grandfather, Arsenio Martinez along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Ray Chavez, who will be remembered alongside him in the hearts of those who knew them both.

A rosary will be held in his honor on January 9, 2026, beginning at 6:00 PM, at Mt. Taylor Funerals & Cremations / Compassion Mortuary located at 120 3rd St, Grants, NM 87020. The service will conclude at 7:30 PM, allowing those who loved Cardenio an opportunity to pay their last respects and celebrate a life lived with vigor and authenticity.
