Cecilia Thigpen Methvin

Cecilia Thigpen Methvin, a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished member of the Grants community, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, in Grants, NM. Born on October 21, 1947, in Albuquerque, NM, Cecilia's life was a testament to relentless dedication, warmth, and an unwavering commitment to her family and those around her.

A proud graduate of Mount Trinity High School in Boston, Massachusetts, Cecilia embarked on her higher education journey at Loretto Heights College in Denver, Colorado. It was shortly after beginning college that she joyfully married the love of her life, Ronnie Methvin, on her 18th birthday. Together, they shared 49 treasured years of marriage until Ronnie's passing, building a home filled with love and countless cherished memories.

Cecilia’s career path was marked by steadfast commitment and diverse professional experiences. She began working alongside her mother at Laura's Dress Shop, embracing the values of hard work from an early age. She then dedicated many years to Grants State Bank before advancing to the role of business manager at Corrections Corporation of America. Following the passing of her beloved parents, Wilber and Dorothy Thigpen, Cecilia courageously took on the leadership of the family’s commercial real estate business, Thigpen Investment, guiding it with integrity and vision.

Her greatest joy in life was being a wife and mother. She tirelessly, hand in hand with her husband, worked to provide a warm, nurturing, and loving home for their family. Cecilia's enduring reminder to her daughters—that no matter their age or life path, she would always be their mother—speaks volumes about the depth of her love and dedication. Cecilia's love extended beyond her immediate family; with a tender heart for animals, she never turned away a stray, embodying kindness in its purest form.

Cecilia is survived by her daughters Rhonda Methvin, Kelly Methvin-Ray & Angie Purvis; her sister-in-law Charolette Klutey; her nieces Christy Klutey and Vicky Darby; great-nieces Alicea Spencer and McKensie Swatling; great-nephew Dustin Darby; and her aunt Nancy Kennedy, along with numerous beloved family and friends who were deeply touched by her generosity and spirit.

Family, friends, and the community are invited to honor Cecilia's memory through a series of services held at St Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Grants, NM. The Rosary will be recited on April 7th, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow on April 8th at 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. A visitation with family and friends will be held on the same day at La Ventana Steak House, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, offering a final time to share stories and celebrate a remarkable life.

Cecilia Thigpen Methvin leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her gentle spirit, profound dedication to family, and commitment to her community have left indelible marks on the hearts she touched.
