Debra Montoya, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away on November 4, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on May 11, 1958, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, Debra dedicated her life to serving those around her, most notably as the local Pizza Hut Lady for ten years, where she joyfully fed many members of her community. She also had a longstanding career of 23 years at Wal-Mart and briefly worked at Maverick, all while being a constant source of warmth and kindness to those she interacted with.
Debra took great pleasure in attending the New Mexico Music Fiestas and had a deep love for listening to New Mexico Spanish music. She was also a devoted fan of the Denver Broncos, but nothing brought her more joy than watching her grandchildren grow. Each moment spent with them was treasured, and she was a significant presence in their lives.
She is survived by her son, Mark Montoya; her daughter, Megan Balderrama and husband Alejandro; and her cherished grandchildren, Nickolas Montoya, Amberly Padilla, Liliana Padilla, Kori Montoya, Adrian Montoya and Xavier Arrey. We must not forget her beloved fur grandbabies Toby, Big Oreo, Little Oreo, Horchata, Crook and Daisy.
Debra was predeceased by her loving parents, Alicia and Claudio Duran, as well as her son, Mario Montoya. She also joins her dear friends and family who have passed before her: Ambrocio Montoya, James Stverak, Pete Duran, Marcella Dean, Doris Duran, and Vicente Duran.
A Rosary will be held in her memory at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Grants, NM, on December 4, 2025, commencing at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass at 10:30 AM. Afterward, she will be laid to rest in interment at Grants Memorial Park Cemetery at 12:00 PM.
In recognizing her eternal spirit, pallbearers will include Mark Montoya, Adrian Montoya, Nickolas Montoya, Montana Delgarito, David Alcon, Patricia Marrujo, Daniel Duran, and Yvette McCoy. Honorary pallbearers are Alejandro Balderrama, along with every grandchild, along with nieces and nephews, as well as her brothers and sisters.
Debra Montoya leaves behind a legacy of love, community service, and family ties that will be felt for generations to come. Her memory will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew her.
