Donald Lee Ward, a devoted family man and steadfast community member, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, in Bluewater, New Mexico. Born on August 25, 1959, in La Veta, Colorado, Donald's life was marked by hard work, joyful moments with loved ones, and a spirited connection to the outdoors.
From a young age, Donald contributed his strength and resilience to the demanding work of uranium mining. His expertise and leadership eventually led him to the role of drilling supervisor with Coyote Drilling, where he was respected for his dedication and skill.
Donald’s personality shone brightly in all aspects of his life. Known as always a happy man, he was deeply loved by those fortunate enough to know him. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends—a testament to his unwavering commitment and love. Among his favored pastimes were fishing and embarking on road trips, adventures he shared with his beloved wife, Janice.
He is lovingly remembered by Janice Ward, his wife of 47 years, and their children: one son and three daughters. His legacy extends through an extensive family network, including 56 nieces and nephews, 22 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward the warmth and strength he embodied throughout his life.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and his eldest son, Don Taylor Jr., whose memories he held close to his heart.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 22, 2026, at the Bluewater Community Center in Bluewater, NM, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather and honor Donald’s remarkable life, share stories, and remember his enduring spirit.
Donald Lee Ward’s journey was one of resilience, joy, and profound love. His memory remains a cherished treasure to all who knew him, a testament to a life well lived and a heart generously shared.
