A Celebration of Life for Joyce Elaine Martin 90 of Edgewood, New Mexico will be held on Tuesday-September 18, 2018-11:30 AM at Compassion Mortuary.
Joyce was born on February 18, 1928 in New Underwood, South Dakota and she passed away peacefully September 15, 2018 in Edgewood, New Mexico.
She was a very active member of the Grants/Milan communities, having live there sixty years. If you knew her, you knew of her love of Betty Boop. She was very passionate about music and would perform at the drop of a hat. Speaking of hats she was an active member of the Red Hats Society of many years. She would return back to college at the impressive age of sixty, to receive a degree in criminal justice and would place in the deans list every semester. The degree then led her to run for Magistrate Judge in Grants. She was known for always having a song for everyone and never knew a stranger. She was affiliated with All Saints Episcopal Church in Milan and was a long-standing member. She also shared her loved of music throughout the Grants community through talent shows, etc. She will be remembered for her ready smile and zest for life.
She is survived by her children: Larry D. Elwood, Crystal K. Riddle, and John E. Martin (Wolf Pup); Grandchildren: Kenny Elwood (Kay), Sandra Hill (Vince), James Elwood (Margaret), Michael Kuykendall (Brenadine), Edward Kuykendall (Michele), Joyce Commo, William Riddle (Tina), David Riddle (Shelly), Steven Elwood, Michelle Elwood, and Katie Elwood, Scott Swartz: 27 Great Grandchildren, 9 Great Great Grandchildren and fifteen nephews and nieces.
She is preceded in death by her husband Leland "Shorty" Martin; Children: James V. Elwood, Donald D. Elwood and Sandra J. Kuykendall.
