Keven Kersten Lackey, affectionately known as "Moose," passed away on May 6, 2025, in his beloved hometown of Grants, New Mexico. Born on November 24, 1963, Keven was a true son of the land, growing up amidst the stunning landscapes that would forever ignite his spirit of adventure and exploration. His early education at Grants High School shaped a foundation of camaraderie and knowledge that he would carry with him throughout his life.
Keven's career in construction was a testament to his hard work and dedication, but it was his passions that truly defined him. An outdoor enthusiast at heart, Moose found joy in the embrace of nature, embarking on countless hunting and fishing trips with family and friends. These adventures were more than just pastimes; they were profound experiences that deepened bonds and created cherished memories amidst the whispers of the winds and the rustling of leaves. Hunting, fishing, camping, archery, and mountain exploring weren't merely activities to Keven; they were elements of his identity, each expedition a story waiting to be written, each moment a vibrant brushstroke on the canvas of his life.
Keven's creativity extended beyond the natural world; he was also a gifted artist and painter. His artistic flair captured the essence of his surroundings, reflecting the vibrant beauty of the landscapes he loved so dearly, a legacy of color and emotion that continues to inspire those who knew him.
Keven's personality radiated warmth and exuberance, drawing others to him like moths to a flame. His laughter echoed through the woods as he regaled his companions with tales of adventures past, his spirit as free as the birds soaring above. The nickname "Moose," lovingly bestowed upon him, speaks volumes of his hearty nature and jovial demeanor — he was a gentle giant, always ready to share a smile or lend a helping hand.
He leaves behind a cherished family who will forever hold his memory close. His mother, Marcia Lackey, along with his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews, will carry forth the legacy of love and laughter that Keven instilled in their lives. In the quiet moments, they will remember him on sunlit shores, amidst the tall pines, and on mountain peaks, his spirit dancing among the wildflowers.
Keven is reunited in spirit with his late father, Fred A. Lackey, who now watches over him from a place of peace.
A celebration of Keven's life will be held on May 15, 2025, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Grants, New Mexico. The day will commence with a Rosary at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass at 10:30 AM.
