August 2, 1922 — March 27, 2009

Funeral Mass for Lee Garcia 86, of Grants, New Mexico will be held Wednesday-April 1, 2009-10:00 AM at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Alberto Avella will be the celebrant. Burial will follow at the Grants Memorial Park with full military honors by the VFW Lodge 3228.



Rosary will be held on Tuesday-March 31, 2009-7:00 PM at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.



Mr. Garcia was born on August 2, 1922 in Grants, New Mexico and passed away on March 27, 2009 in Grants, New Mexico.



Lee graduated from Grants Union High School and served in Europe at the end of World War II. Honorably discharged from the Army he returned home to Grants and was a prospector in the early days of the uranium boom His partnership with Henry Andrews and Dumas Hart in the Blue Peak Mine produced the first uranium ore to be milled from the Grants area. He owned and operated a roofing business, a construction company, and was known to be a lifelong staunch Republican. He knew local and state politicos well, but the highlight of his political career was when he was invited and attended the inauguration of Ronald Regan as the 40th president of the United states in Washington DC.



He is survived by his children: Peggy Borthagaray and husband Martin of Grants, New Mexico, Carol Herrera and husband Joe of Bluewater, New Mexico, Leroy Garcia and wife Barbara of Grants, New Mexico, Andy Garcia and wife Emma of Magdalena, New Mexico and Steve Garcia of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughters in laws: Lupe Garcia of Grants, New Mexico, Maria Magana of Grants, New Mexico; Nieces: Mildred Brown of Farmington and Dixie Diaz of Grants, New Mexico; Nephews: Gene Spidle of Grants, New Mexico; 20 Grandchildren and 25 Great Grandchildren.



He is preceded in death by his first wife: Mary Garcia; 2nd wife: Ida Garcia; Son: Alvin Garcia; Parents: Emilio Garcia and Josephita Baca Garcia; Sister: Emma Spidle.



Pallbearers will be: Mark Garcia, Paul Garcia, Eric Garcia, Marty Borthagaray, Jo Jo Hererra and Frank Aguilar, Jr.



Honorary Pallbearers will be: His Grandchildren and great Grandchildren.
