Lorene Bass

April 8, 1919 — July 13, 2006

Lorene "Renie" Bass 87, was born on April 8, 1919 in Ralston, Oklahoma. She died on July 13, 2006 in Gallup, New Mexico. Lorene lived in Cushing, Oklahoma for most of her youth. In 1933, she left home and traveled with the Alamo Show where she met her husband of 57 years. They married on July 27, 1936 in Casper, Wyoming. Lorene and her husband moved to New Mexico in the early 1940's. They established business on Route 66 in 1947 and opened the Thunderbird Bar, near Thoreau, on July 4th, 1964.



Lorene devoted her life to supporting her husband, raising her children, helping raise her grandchildren, and enjoying her great-grandbabies. Her happiest thoughts and memories were always of the little ones.



Lorene was preceded in death by her father, George Barnett; mother, Berlie McDaniel Barnett; daughter, Janet Darlene Bass; husband, John H. "Bill" Bass; sisters, Gladys Barnett, Marie "Sunny" Handing, Mabel Stringer, Nola Houtz, Ruth "Goldie" Taviana, and brothers, George Barnett, Jesse Barnett, and Doyle Barnett.



She is survived by her son, Harold R. "Bob" Bass of Farmington, New Mexico, daughter and son-in-law, Gay and Aaron Garoutte of Thoreau, New Mexico; her 5 grandchildren and their spouses: John and Robin Bass of Glendale, Arizona, Angela and Marcos Arvizo of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Jori and Jess Butler of Thoreau, New Mexico, Jared and Dawnette Garoutte of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Robert Bass of Farmington, New Mexico; her 7 Great Grandchildren: Denise and Mariah Arvizo; Lennorre', Dillon, and Manda Jean Butler; Nicole and Huston Garoutte; her sisters, Eunice Michalski of St. Joseph, Missouri, Dorothy Broderson of Monterey Park, California, and Darlene Presley of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Brothers, Jimmy Barnett of Cushing, Oklahoma and Bobby Barnett of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.



Lorene's final wishes were that there would be no service. She will be cremated and her remains will join her husband's on family property.
