Margaret “Lu” Ramirez was born on January 26, 1953, in Gallup, New Mexico, to Andres and Virginia Cortez. On August 29, 2026 she received her angel wings and went home to be with the Lord she loved so deeply.

Lu is survived by her daughters, Darlene (Tery) Bustos, Nadine (Andrew) Hall, Renee Espinoza, Angela Ramirez, and Aaliyah Martinez, whom she lovingly raised for the past nine years.

She is also survived by her siblings: brother Eddie Ramirez, sisters; Toy Moorman, MaryHelen Ramirez, Denise (Richard) Carrillo, Renee Cortez, and Victoria (Cary) Bustos.

She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Josephine “Heartbeat” (Branden M.), Nick “Little Man” (Ambra P.) , Andrea (Justin B.), Angel and Estevan Espinoza, Aaron and Adrian Madrid, Joshua and Triston Bustos, Patrick Torres, and her great-grandchildren, Angela, Jakobi, Makenna, and Aaron Jr.

As well as; many nieces and nephews that will hold the memories of their “aunty nana” close at heart.

Lu is preceded in death by her parents, Virginia and Andres Cortez, lovingly known as “Mom & Pop”; her sister, Josephine Armijo; her brother, Daniel “Danny” Ramirez; and her grandson, Anthony Hall or “Jr.”

Throughout the years, Lu lived in Albuquerque and Grants, where she worked as a CNA in hospice care. She loved spending her time crocheting, gardening, fishing, and camping. She especially enjoyed sitting on the front step, watching her hummingbirds and Aaliyah playing in the yard. You could always find her sitting in her recliner with her Bible right beside her and a cup of coffee. Her love and faith in God continued to grow throughout her life, and her relationship with the Lord was a beautiful and important part of who she was.

Throughout her battle, her daughter, Darlene, was by her side every step of the way. Darlene devoted herself wholeheartedly to her mother, providing her with unwavering love, comfort, and the most incredible care. She was there through every difficult moment, every quiet moment, and every moment in between, making sure her mother was never alone.

Darlene’s love and dedication was a beautiful testament to the bond they shared. She had the privilege of caring for her mother through her final days and remained by her side until her last breath, bringing her comfort, peace, and love during her final moments. Her presence was an immeasurable gift and a deeply meaningful part of her mother’s final journey.

Lu’s life may have come to an end, but the love she gave will never leave the hearts of those who knew her. Her smile, her stories, her faith, her Bible beside her, her vacuuming, and all of the ordinary moments that became precious memories will forever be a part of the family she loved so dearly.

She leaves behind a family who will miss her more than words can express, but she also leaves behind a lifetime of love and memories. We’ll miss you “mom”, “sister”, “aunty nana”, “grandma”.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her sisters, Tori, “Chooch,” and “Cheez,” granddaughter Josephine and grandson Nick; for the countless hours, love, support, and help they expressed throughout this journey. Their presence and dedication meant more than words can express. The family would also like to thank Compassus Hospice for their compassionate care, comfort, and support.

A celebration of life for Lu will be held at a later date.
