Minnie O Guerito, born on July 20, 1938, in Counselor, NM, departed this life on September 30, 2025. At the age of 87, she leaves behind a legacy as a devoted mother and cherished grandmother. She was also known as a Gold Star Mother a wife of a Navajo Code Talker.
Minnie dedicated her life to caring for her family and cherished home, lovingly embracing her role as a homemaker. Her unwavering love and nurturing spirit created a warm and welcoming environment for all who entered her door. She delighted in every visit from her grandchildren, her happiest moments spent surrounded by their laughter and joy. Minnie had a special knack for turning ordinary days into cherished memories, often making time to sit with them and enjoy playful banter. Her connection with her grandchildren was vibrant and filled with laughter, creating bonds that will endure for generations to come.
In her quieter moments, Minnie found solace and satisfaction in putting together puzzles, especially those depicting nature scenes. This pastime reflected her love for the beauty of the world around her, as well as her appreciation for history. Each puzzle served as a reminder of her patience and dedication, qualities that defined her life.
While Minnie's formal education was limited, she possessed a wisdom that transcended textbooks. She acquired knowledge through the love and teachings of her husband, learning lessons that certainly shaped her into the incredible woman she became.
Minnie is survived by her beloved children: Alvin, Jacqueline, Isabelle, Victoria, and Cheryl. Her memory will also live on in the hearts of her grandchildren—Deanna, Colette, Daniel, Mena, Tory, Lelander, Leonard Jr., Jalen, Jamal, and Sideano. Each of them holds a unique memory of their grandmother, who taught them the value of family and shared countless laughter-filled moments.
Among those who remember Minnie with love is her brother Alvin Otero, and her sister Gloria, as well as her son Anthony Otero. They carry with them the lessons of her strength and compassion, honoring her spirit in their lives.
Minnie is now reunited with her late husband, Billy Lewis Guerito, her son Allen D Guerito, her brother Amos Otero, and sisters Janet Whitehorse and Laverne Shaw. In their company, she finds eternal peace, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of love that will resonate through the lives she touched.
A memorial service in honor of Minnie will be held on October 11, 2025, at Pine Hill Baptist Church in Counselor, NM.
