Orlando Romero, a cherished member of the community, passed away on February 26, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on May 24, 1941, in Cubero, New Mexico, he was a proud graduate of Grants High School. His life's journey led him to become an accomplished uranium miner and contractor, as well as an explosives expert, showcasing a remarkable depth of skill in his profession.

Orlando's dedication to service was evident during his time in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1959 to 1963. This experience shaped not only his character but also his commitment to his family and community. Orlando loved to share stories from his childhood on the family ranch, reflecting fondly on the lessons learned and experiences that defined his early years. His passion for life extended beyond work and military service; he relished moments spent fishing, camping, and hunting. He found great joy in coaching little league, immersing himself in the laughter and excitement of the young athletes he mentored. Notably, his love for golf stood out, whether he was watching tournaments on television, playing rounds with friends, or imparting his knowledge to budding golfers.

Orlando is survived by his daughter, Audrey Lucero, and her husband Wayne; daughter, Denise Mazon; son, Michael Mazon, and his wife Rebecca; along with 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren who cherished their time with him.

He was predeceased by his life partner, Lucile Mazon; daughters Darlene Romero-Brito and Tammy Romero-Golden; son Orlando "Hito" Romero; parents Nilda and Pete Romero; and siblings Pete "Bino" Romero, Escolastico "Lucky" Romero, Mary Barela, Pricilla Romero, and Teresa Gabaldon.

A Celebration of Life in memory of Orlando Romero will be held on March 8, 2026, at Coyote Del Malpais in Grants, New Mexico, beginning at 11:00 AM. This gathering will provide family and friends the opportunity to honor and reminisce about the profound impact Orlando had on their lives. His legacy of love, strength, and storytelling will forever remain ingrained in the hearts of those who knew him.
