Patricia Jane Peterson

Patricia Jane Peterson (nee Kerr), born September 18, 1926, died peacefully November 10, 2025 at her home in Candy Kitchen, New Mexico. She was 99 years old.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Alan Kerr, three sisters (Barb, Joan, Thera), her husband the Reverend Dr. Roy Peterson, and two sons (William, Allen). She is survived by her son Paul of Candy Kitchen, four grandchildren (Kristin, Rachel, Sarah, John) and four great-grandchildren (Emily, Fiona, Hazel, Westley).

Pat taught ceramics and sewing to both youth and adults for many years. She was active in numerous organizations, loved gardening, traveled much of the world with her husband Roy, and they enjoyed exploring Lake Huron in their sailboat.

Pat came to New Mexico in 2016 from Michigan to be with her son Paul and his wife Wendy as they homesteaded in Candy Kitchen. She loved hiking the trails around the house, collecting mossy rocks, admiring ant hills, and each day enjoyed the glorious view of the Chain of Craters from her front window. For the last five years of her life, she was blessed to have as a friend and caregiver, Melissa Kadinger of Candy Kitchen.

The main part of Patricia’s ashes will be taken back to Michigan to be with her husband’s and two sons’ ashes. A portion will remain in a memorial for her on the sacred New Mexico land she loved and called home.
