Phillip Jaramillo, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully in his hometown of Grants, New Mexico, on July 26, 2026, at the age of 81. Born in Grants on October 21, 1944, Phillip’s life was marked by a strong work ethic, deep family bonds, and a love for his community.

Phillip’s journey began in the halls of Grants High School, from which he proudly graduated with the Class of 1963. After school, he forged a life characterized by resilience, resourcefulness, and commitment to those he loved. His working life was varied and robust, beginning as a milkman and expanding into roles that spoke to both his strength and reliability. Phillip spent significant years working in the uranium mines and paper mill, contributing to the vibrant industrial history that shaped Grants and its surrounding areas. He later took on the trusted responsibilities of an Armored Messenger for Loomis Fargo and rounded out his career as a car salesman, where his personable nature served him well.

Phillip’s passions extended beyond work. He was happiest when enjoying car rides through the familiar New Mexico landscape, with oldie music playing through the speakers. His love for music was more than passive—he found great joy in playing guitar and sharing music with others. He loved to play with his band, “The Veltones,” creating cherished memories for himself and many others.

Western films and television shows brought him comfort and enjoyment, and he was known among family and friends for his appreciation of a good meal—especially Hueveos Rancheros or a Carne Asada Burrito from Taco Village. These simple pleasures reflected his approach to life: find what brings joy, savor it, and share it with those you love.

Family was at the heart of everything Phillip did, and his greatest source of pride was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters Brenda and Aurelia Jaramillo, sons-in-law Andy Michael and Isaiah Martinez, son David, and daughter-in-law Renee Jaramillo. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Andrew Michael, Susan Michael, Davon, Theresa Jaramillo, Tatum Martinez, Alyssa, Rudy Rodriguez, Rianna Jaramillo, Ravae Jaramillo, and Ryenne Jaramillo. He was blessed to see the next generation flourish with great-grandchildren Zeke, Rocky Rodriguez, Joseph, Noah Jaramillo, Jaqueline, and Carter Michael.

Phillip’s deep familial connections also included his sisters Blanche Garza, Bernadette Quinonez, Nicki Marquez, Nancy Gonzales, Juanita Sarceda, and Cela Valdez, as well as his brother Willie Jaramillo. Though he deeply missed his father Conrad Jaramillo, his mother Stephanita Salazar, and his sister Evangeline Griego, who all preceded him in death, Phillip held their memories close throughout his life.

A Celebration of Life honoring Phillip will take place on August 6, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Mt. Taylor Funerals & Cremations / Compassion Mortuary, 120 3rd St, Grants, NM 87020, followed by burial at Grants Memorial Park Cemetery, 500 West Roosevelt Avenue, Grants, NM 87020, beginning at 11:30 AM.

Phillip Jaramillo leaves behind a loving family, a host of proud memories, and a legacy of kindness and steadfastness. His life touched many, and his spirit will live on in the stories, music, and fond recollections shared by all who knew him.
