Rose Marie Maes

April 5, 1946 — May 9, 2025

Bueyeros, NM

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Rose Marie Maes, a cherished mother, sister, and devoted social worker, who departed this life on May 9, 2025, at her home in Grants, New Mexico. Born on April 5, 1946, and raised in San Rafael, New Mexico, Rose envisioned a life woven with purpose and compassion, dedicating twenty-seven years of her professional journey to the Human Services Department as an unwavering advocate for those in need.

A proud high school graduate, Rose pursued her educational journey further, attending some college, where her innate desire to uplift others began to crystallize into a lifelong vocation. Her rich career was not merely a profession but a reflection of her character—one deeply committed to providing for others.

In her personal life, Rose found her greatest joys within the embrace of her family and within the vistas of nature. She shared a beautiful life with her beloved husband of 54 years, Leroy Joe Maes, who predeceased her on June 8, 2024. Together, they embarked on countless adventures, exploring all but one of the fifty states in this vast country. Their escapades were highlighted by two memorable visits to the magnificent Redwood forest in California, a place she held dear to her heart.

An ardent lover of the outdoors, Rose reveled in the tranquility of the ranch she came to call home. It was there that she spent countless mornings seated on the porch her husband constructed for her, savoring the serenity while watching the sunrise paint the sky in vibrant hues. This little slice of paradise was more than just a dwelling; it was a sanctuary where she nurtured her passions, including her exquisite cooking, sewing, and the cherished pastime of playing games. Each night would find her and Leroy engaged in spirited rounds of Scrabble, a ritual that punctuated their days with laughter and love.

Among Rose’s proudest accomplishments was the joy of raising her beloved son, Les Maes, who together with his wife, Veronica, carry forward her legacy of love and dedication. The bond she shared with her son stood as a testament to her nurturing spirit and immense capacity for love. Rose also leaves behind her dear sister, Selza Molina, the sole surviving member of her close-knit family of nine siblings, all of whom have now departed from this world.

As we reflect on the tapestry of Rose Marie Maes’s life, we remember her not only for her remarkable professional contributions but also for her boundless kindness and the love she imparted to her family. Her essence will forever resonate within the hearts of those who knew her, a gentle reminder of a woman whose life was a beacon of hope and compassion, echoing the values she so passionately championed.
