Stewart Sloan

February 21, 1951 — March 14, 2021

A Celebration of Life for Stewart "Raymond" Sloan, 71, will be at 11 am Saturday, March 19, at Bethel Navajo Assembly of God in Houck, AZ. Katherine Pierce will officiate. Private interment of burial remains will be held later. Sloan died March 14, 2022, in Gallup. He was born Feb. 21, 1951 in Crownpoint. He was born of the Tlogi Clan (Zia Pueblo), born for the Bitter Water Clan.



Sloan graduated from Thoreau High School in Thoreau. He attended TVI in Albuquerque, Colorado Mountain College in Leadville, CO, Superior Training Services in Phoenix, Navajo Technical University in Crownpoint. He worked for Kerr-McGee, United Nuclear, BNSF Railway, and retiring from BNSF in 2014 as a track supervisor. He loved welding, woodworking, and being outdoors. He liked the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers, NBA Basketball, and enjoyed fishing. He was active in his church at Chambers Baptist Church in Chambers, AZ. He was always willing to help others.



Survivors include his wife Susan Sloan; daughters Rachelle Sloan, Loretta J. Bechtel, Tatianna R. Sloan; son-in-law Hans Bechtel, sisters Jeanie Preston and Evelyn Rico; brothers Michael Sloan, Matthew Sloan, and Benjamin Sloan; and four grandchildren.



Sloan was preceded in death by his brothers Curtis Sloan, Jamison Sloan, Wilbert Sloan, Amos Sloan Sr.; sister Margret Carlson; parents Doris Chopo Sloan and Milton Begay Sloan.



The family will receive relatives and friends following services at Bethel Navajo Assembly of God fellowship hall. No family dinner after services per Stewart's request.
